Should I give up with this girl?

Well I like this girl, and we knew each other and we would just say hi to eachother in the hallways but the word got out that I liked her and I'm guessing she found out because she started talking to me and we started texting and everything. We've been to the mall 2 times together. Anyway, last week while we were texting I said "Well, you've probably already heard because basically the whole school knows but... I like you" she replied like 10 minutes later saying "awww *name omitted* i like you alooooooot tooo, but as a reallllllyyyy close friend!" i said "haha okay(:" and we dropped it. Is it done? Is there no hope? Should I just continue being best friends? Thanks
